Taiji for Healing
Taijiquan (T’ai-chi) is an outstanding exercise for rehabilitating a broad range of chronic ailments, but the key to its effectiveness lies in the mind, not the movements! In this eight-week class, we will study only a handful of easy-to-learn postures drawn from traditional Taijiquan as a starting point for exploring how mindfulness can profoundly transform the body and tap into our incredible fascial network, the source of Taiji’s fabled martial skill and revered healing effects. The goal of this class is to empower students with a simple, clear, and effective practice to improve pain and mobility issues, quiet the busy mind, and reacquaint ourselves with our bodies as truly sublime spaces for us to inhabit.
This class meets every Monday 5:00pm-6:00pm from September 8 to October 27. Ages 20+. $8 for Thetford residents, $12 for non-residents. Sign up through Thetford Recreation.

Essential Self-Defense
A free program for BIPOC community members to learn essential self-defense skills, presented in partnership with the Northeast Farmers of Color Land Trust. Contact us to reserve a spot! Participants should be 16+.
Essential Self-Defense
Presented in collaboration with Northeast Farmers of Color Land Trust, this course aims to introduce participants to the basics of protecting yourself and those with you. While most self-defense programs focus on ways to deal with full-blown assault, many of us need skills that can apply to difficult and uncomfortable situations that may never meet such a high threshold. In this course, we aim to fill that gap by studying the principles that empower us to act deliberately and effectively across many different kinds of confrontations, from non-physical to life-threatening, so that we can always assert our agency and have our boundaries respected.
